Troop Survey
Survey 2012     Each year we begin our planning process for our next year’s program by obtaining feedback via our Annual Troop Survey from Scouts, Parents, Leaders and our special volunteers. This is extremely important and should only take 20-30 minutes of your time. This survey is a sincere effort on the part of the troop leadership to constantly improve our program; and more importantly, an opportunity for the boys to voice their opinion, thoughts, ideas, likes and dislikes of our program.

We suggest the following: Parents should sit down with their Scout and read through the one page of Aims and Methods of Scouting. This will give you context for some of the survey questions. Then go through the questions and provide your feedback. Older Scouts may want to fill one out separately from the parents, and that is just fine. The more feedback we get, the better we can make the program for the Scouts.

All feedback is confidential. Since this is intended to be a Scout led (boy run) program, a feedback summary will be provided to the Patrol Leaders Council to be used during the Annual Planning Conference (APC). We require 100% participation to make this successful. Thank you in advance for taking the time to take the survey.

Fundraising
Christmas Tree Pick up    A great big thanks to all the Scouts, Parents and Leaders who supported this year’s CHRISTMAS TREE PICKUP! Special thanks go out to the Coordinator, Jim Vander Poel, who once again dedicated tremendous amount of work, time and effort!

Congratulations
Congratulations to ASM John Polanowicz     on being awarded the Knox Trail council highest award of Silver Beaver. The Silver Beaver is presented to a volunteer in recognition of service to youth in his or her community. Selections are based on recommendations and an evaluation of the total impact that the nominee's activities have demonstrated in the community in which they live and work. Each honoree is a dedicated person such as yourself who has had a positive influence on our youth. Congratulations John!

Activities
Scout Sunday and Scout Sabbath Volunteer needed!    I am looking for adult leaders to coordinate Scout Sunday activities for Trinity Church, St. Rose, St. Bernadette’s and Church of the Nativity. A Leader volunteer could also coordinate Scout Sabbath at Temple Beth Tikvah Synagogue, 45 Oak Street, Westborough.

We need to also reach out to Troop 1 to see if they are also coordinating Scout Sunday activities especially since they are sponsored by Church of the Nativity. But I know there are Troop 1 Scouts that attend both St. Rose and St. Bernadette’s.

Please let Steve Wall scw2205@aol.com and myself know if you would be willing to coordinate one of the places of worship or if you are interested and willing to help or participate.

Scuba Diving Merit Badge ~ Dave Covino ASM    Scouts interested in the Scuba Diving Merit Badge should contact ASM Covino at any Troop Meeting or email him dcovino@charter.net. Open water diver certification classes begin soon. Scouts must have their swimming merit badge before beginning the lessons. Prerequisites for the certification classes are minimum 10 years old, must be comfortable in the water, must be able to swim 8 lengths of the pool (or swim 12 lengths of the pool with mask, snorkel, and fins), tread water for 10 minutes, and be in good medical condition. Make it a family experience. Immediate family members are welcome to take the open water diver certification course with the scout. Not sure if you or your scout would like scuba diving. Have fun trying it out in a short pool session.

Troop 101 Scout Supervision & Safety
Dear parents,

During Troop Meetings and during Troop events such as Troop camping trips (unless otherwise stated), Scouts are under the supervision and guidance of the appointed adult leaders of Troop 101. As we welcome parents participation in all Troop activities and meetings, we try to strike a balance between adult involvement and the Scout’s independence.

Our leaders take pride in treating every Scout with respect and providing our best reasonable efforts in the principles of teaching, guiding, leading, motivating, coaching, and mentoring. However, we cannot be everywhere at all times and while teaching boys to be more independent, we have to ensure we set up a safe environment which does include boundaries and reasonable supervision.

To that aim, I want to call your attention to rules which help us keep your Scout safe. Our Troop meetings are to start at 7:00 PM which means that Scouts will be arriving before then and there will be leaders present in advance of the Troop Meeting. Scouts that are dropped off must go directly into the designated meeting area, typically the main hall at Trinity Church.

We strive to have the Troop meeting end by 8:30 PM. We invite you to come in a few minutes early to hear the announcements if you are interested. If you need to pick up your son before dismissal for some reason you must come in and get him. Scouts will not wait in the parking lot (especially when it is dark) but will wait inside the door until their ride arrives. Our goal will be to have at least one leader in the hallway. In order to make arrangements around the meeting activities, upon arrival the Scout should inform the Senior Patrol Leader or the Scoutmaster that he needs to leave early.

Weather permitting we may have leaders outside supervising the parking lot. We do not want Scouts to get hurt in the parking lot due to all the cars coming and going.

An adult leader with one other parent or another leader will be the last ones to leave after all the Scouts are picked up. We ask that you pick up your Scouts promptly. We will not leave your Scout at the Church by himself.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Yours In Scouting,

Ron Koshko
Chairman

National Jamboree 2013

It is never too early to plan for the National Jamboree, in just over 500 days; BSA will introduce a new National Jamboree Location, “The Summit”. This Is More Than A Place. It's an adventure center for the millions of youth and adults involved in the Boy Scouts of America. It will be the 4th BSA High Adventure Base, with the other three being the Philmont Scout Ranch, Northern Tier and Florida Sea Base. It's the beginning of the next century of Scouting. With incredible facilities and intense outdoor programs, The Summit is a place that takes kids to the limits of what they think they can do, and then goes further. The Summit is more than just a place for Scouts; it's Scouting's next step AS a troop we will once again be participating as guests, approximate dates are July 18-22, 2013, more information to come. Adults looking to sign up as staff can go here to register https://summit.scouting.org/en/Jamboree2013/Pages/Staff.aspx
